Dr. Bulang He (MB BS, MS, FRACS) underwent advanced training in abdominal organ transplantation following specialty training in urology. He has special interest in laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy, kidney transplant and dialysis access surgery. He has developed minimally invasive surgical technique for kidney transplant, established a large live animal model for laparoscopic kidney transplant and successfully performed the first human laparoscopic kidney transplant by extra peritoneal approach in the world in 2013. Most recently, his research interest is to establish normothermic machine perfusion for kidney transplantation and increase utilization of marginal kidneys. He is the director of Renal Surgery and Transplant at Austin Health, honorary associate professor at University of Melbourne. He sits in a few committees, including as a chair of Transplant Section, Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (2021-). He was a founding chair of live donor surgeon subcommittee, DSDCAC, Transplant Society of Australia and New Zealand. He has published over 60 peer-reviewed papers. As a chief editor, he published the book “The Surgery for Kidney Transplantation” in 2015 by Nova, USA.
